Jazz in Marciac 2019
Sadly, we had to leave San Sebastian, one of my favorite cities. So rich in culture and culinary delights. The sadness grew as we drove and observe the disappearance of the lovely bay beneath the backdrops of the Pyrenees. Fortunately, the jazz pilgrimage will go on.
We are on our way to Marciac, a small village in the Pyrenees. This city comes to live during the 3 weeks international jazz festivities, bringing in several thousands of people from all over the world.
This year Sting, who collaborated with some other jazz musicians, created a record-breaking show that attracted close to 12.000 people.
The festival continues with so many other great artists, to name a few: Gregory Porter who mesmerized the audience with his warm voice, Wynton Marsalis with his usual mastery of jazz renditions and Amaury Faye Trio who kept the audience spellbound with his delicate style of piano playing. The dynamic Beth Hart with her Janis Joplin style of performance really got the crowd going, the energetic Cuban band Harold Lopez-Nussa brought the Cuban spirit with them with their kind of jamming. The piano virtuoso Chucho Valdes, featuring Kenny Garrett and the beautiful violinist Yilian Canazeres, took me to an almost heavenly state of mind.
There is more to come. Can’t wait to share more of the experience.
Having seen Melody Gardot several times in the past and each time she brings something new to the stage. This time however she did not catch my mood. Found her somewhat melancholic. Even though her performance captivated some of the audience
